Sugano and Jonas celebrated in Okinawa with 120 guests and a full programme that ran the length of the day. Family arrived, speeches were made, music played, a wonderful meal was served, and one moment ran straight into the next.

It was a big, warm, fast-moving celebration. A day this full does not pause for a photographer. Film made me choose, and choosing is the work: one frame for the speech, one for the grandmother's face as she listened.
